"FIGHTIN JANE"

This action-packed bronze sculpture is of the dapple gray filly, Fightin Jane, who won the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity 2000. Originally, Jane's  owner wanted to name the young filly "G I  Jane" after seeing the movie with that title, but settled on "Fightin Jane. '' The filly was to be sold as a yearling at an annual yearling sale for racing quarter horse prospects. Buyers weren't very interested in the gray filly because they apparently didn't think she was "pretty enough" in the face and was a little "heavy  boned." She didn't sell so her owner brought the filly home where she was trained for the race track.  Fightin Jane was entered in the 2000 Ruidoso Futurity in Ruidoso, New Mexico. After what started out to look like a two-horse race, Fightin Jane pulled ahead to finish and win the race by a healthy distance. The irony of the story is the horse Fightin Jane beat was the top selling colt at that same yearling sale where nobody wanted to purchase Jane.
